LOCAL PROGRAMS: Hampton Roads, Virginia

The Learners to Leaders™ program in Hampton Roads is an alliance that includes Smithfield Foods, Inc., An Achievable Dream and Newport News Public Schools.

As the 2006 class sponsor, Smithfield Foods made a commitment to provide each of An Achievable Dream's 34 graduates with a $2,000 college scholarship through its nonprofit Smithfield-Luter Foundation every year for four years. All of the program's 2006 graduates are going on to college, with the exception of two going into the United States Armed Forces.

ABOUT AN ACHIEVABLE DREAM

Achievable Dream website link Created in 1992, An Achievable Dream is a nonprofit organization that operates an accredited school within the Newport News Public School system. The objective of An Achievable Dream is to give inner-city children who are at risk of failure in school due to various social factors a chance to succeed. An Achievable Dream provides a social, academic and moral curriculum for children who may not otherwise have the hope they need to achieve their dreams.
